Hi *,

here I am with another beta refresh of avast 5 (version number 5.0.221).

I don't have a change log at this time but a number of the things discussed here should be fixed in this build, as well as a good number of others that we found internally.

Again, it should be possible to reliably install this version over an existing avast 4.8 (or previous 5.0) installation. Actually, upgrading from v4.8 is a good test case and we would appreciate your feedback on how well it works.

Uses of the previous beta build (5.0.167/5.0.188 can use the built-in updater).
Alternatively, the standalone installer can be downloaded from here: http://files.avast.com/files/beta/5.0.221/setup_av_free.exe

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk, i'd appreciate at least a rough changelog of less obvious changes and fixes or what's new in this build (especially about Behavior Shield, Heuristics etc)

I wonder what's the reason for this bug being so darn persistent.

Actually when i first installed it i too had this bug. But later, a couple of times when avast! auto-updated( even with the previous version) when i opened the status screen everything seemed to be fine. It correctly showed it is up to date.
P.S. Would really really appreciate even a rough changelog if possible.

Make it as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Hmmm... I don't face this bug anymore. It went away a couple of days ago, probably with one of the auto-updates.
For me, the GUI is working fine.

I've noticed a small problem with the 5.0 beta... Sometimes when Windows starts (Windows 7 32bit) the Avast icon is missing from the tray. This can be temporarily fixed by checking/uncheking "show avast tray icon" in the settings. I've tried to use the option "load avast services only after system services" but it doesn't make a difference.
Maybe it's a windows bug, but I think avast should verify somehow if the tray icon is visible (or force it to show).

That's a purely Win related thing. Happened with other symbols too. Since I installed the WIN 7 x64 systems, this only occured after the first reboot. Working fine since then.
