Superseded by a new build
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=51487.0

Hi,

together with the beta refresh of the free AV, we're now also releasing a beta version of the avast! Internet Security product (version number is the same -- i.e. 5.0.254)

Download link: removed

Besides the features of the free AV, this includes three more major components

- firewall
- antispam
- process virtualization (a.k.a. sandbox)

Please note that this is the first public beta release so it may still be a bit unstable (even though we tried to prevent any crashes and similar things). Anyone interested in this product is more than welcome to install it and test it. Your respective feedback is appreciated.

There's still some limitations in this version. Some of the expert settings in the firewall and the sandbox are not functional yet (will be in the next beta refresh in a few days). Also, the logic of the firewall application grid is likely to change a bit (more on this later). And a few other things (we'll be fixing/improving these shortly).

If you have any issues/comments etc, as usual, please start a new thread (as opposed to flooding this thread with posts).

System requirements: Windows 2000 SP4 or higher, XP SP2 or higher (32-bit only), Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit, any SP) and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).

Languages: the setup program offers like 11 languages but some of them are still incomplete (so that you may see some English strings instead of localized ones so far).

BTW during the installation of the firewall, you will see 2 or more warnings (coming from Windows) about unsigned drivers. You'll need to ignore these (tell Windows to allow the drivers to be installed) - otherwise, the product will not work. These popups will not be there in the final product once we certify and WHQL-sign the drivers.

Thanks much, and have fun!

You mean from the free AV?
Possibly, even though I don't guarantee. You're free to try it... Wink

Hi VLK,

After I install the latest version of avast and I registered it,it always stay in the same page in Summary.

Do you think it is a problem because I tried to enter the scan, the realtime shield and the update it was impossible!

I was only able to enter the setting.

Hi VLK,

After restarted, avast icon doesn't appeared at taskbar and the service icon look disable.
Beside that avast service can't run after we clicked it through Start - Program Files - avast antivirus.

Is it still unstable for avast ver.5.0.252?

Hi Shiw Liang,

Sorry, my mistaken.
This happened at my workmate notebook with avast ver.5.0.252.

And i tried it too with my notebook, using Win 7 (32 bit) after i restarted then avast asked me to register and then need to restart it again.
After all, win 7 doesn't detect that i am using avast antivirus on my operating system.

Is it a bug with this new version?

I installed over the current beta and after the initial restart was unable to navigate from the summary screen.  However after another restart this problem was resolved.  Nice work so far! Grin
