LJH,

If I understand correctly you are suggesting an alternative if the uninstaller doesn't work?

Personally, I would avoid messing with the registry...could cause more harm than good...

True, but if you have to.
I've been so (virusbuster)

What would have been helpful would have been, if the other AV said what it found and zoro192009 reported what that was "it asked me to remove the avast file in the hard disk".

The best option is to run the uninstall utility.
Core2Duo E8300/ 4GB Ram/ WinXP ProSP3/ avast! free 2014 9.0.2016/ Outpost Firewall Pro9.1/ Firefox 28.0, NoScript, RequestPolicy/ MailWasher Pro/ DropMyRights/ MalwareBytes AntiMalware Premium 2.0.1/ WinPatrol+/ Drive Image 7.1/ SnagIt 10.0/ avast! mobile security

Not necessarily from Avast is.
Other programs may also be the problem.
It is true that: UNINSTAL utility.
But it's still the remaining files to be deleted somehow.
Before the backup and restore point creation of the proposed.
Even a good program, I think (in general)
