Hi malware fighters,
The worst damaging malware for 2009 was the damaging file-infector virut, while conficker got all the attention. Also we saw a large increase of malcode injections of trusted reputable websites, there the avast shields protected our community like no other av solution could.
Rootkitted malicious software
Apart from two worms there were three Trojans seen to infest in great numbers, as there are Zbot, Bredolabs and TDSS. Last mentioned Trojan was notorious because of the used rootkit, that made removal of it very hard (essexboy and olman here on the forums know all about cleansing victim's computers of this malcreant's creation, it even defied ComboScript for a wee while).
Then some good news again the MS Autorun-patch will make it harder for worms to spread, mumber of infestation will be seen to go down Didier Stevens came up with a reg key to protect Safe Mode better and cyber criminals started to use similar social engineering tricks, making it easier for them to be identified and avoid their scams.
