Now superseded by a newer build
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53489.0

Hi *,

here we are again with a new beta build of the Free AV and Internet Security products (version number 5.0.363).

Download links:
Free AV: link removed
Internet Security: link removed

If you're running the previous beta (5.0.332) you should be able to go this new version by simply invoking the Program Update feature from within the avast UI. Alternatively, you can install this new version from scratch (uninstall the old one, reboot, and install this).

Compared to the previous beta build 332, this new version should solve a few issues, most notably:
- crashes related to the Behavior Shield module
- many improvements in the firewall
- improvements in the sandbox
- other stuff in the Behavior Shield
- fixes in the antirootkit module
- cosmetic fixes

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk,

is the Behavior Shield supposed to do anything in a WIN 7 x64 environment?
Or will it just not be implemented for x64 systems?

Some information about that would be appreciated by many a user here...   Roll Eyes

[Edit] Update went smooth - no probs. [/Edit]

Updated AV Free .363 over .332.  No issues; but .332 was already running smoothly.  Looks ready for an RC whenever it fits with your plans for the rest of the suite.

BTW: just noticed it doesn't say "Beta 3" anymore on the GUI... not sure if it was that way already before the update, but I'd say: that's a sign that we're closing in now.

As far as I know the BS has been running for 32-bit systems since the pre-previous version. Nobody knows exactly what it does.
As for 64 bit systems - I can't recall anybody reporting any observed activity whatsoever. That is why nobody knows if it's running on 64 bitters at all.

Nobody from the devs clarifies... don't know why.

Maybe they don't know either?  Grin

Regarding the Behav Shield on x64.... as I already said in one of the other threads, currently we have no rules for x64 (the emphasis is on 32-bit). This doesn't really mean there won't be any added later, but there are currently zero. Also, because of the limitations of the 64-bit Windows, the Behav Shield shield under x64 can't do the real-time antirootkit scanning.
Thanks

Installed 363 over 332 w/o problems.
Also noticed that check mark under "Update Parameters" now carries over from 332 - it did not carry over from previous versions.

Looks good so far!

Installed over 332 without any problems.  Everything seems to be running smoothly, not much activity on the behavior shield though (1 file scanned on startup), not sure if this is normal?  Anyways this is a great product!  Grin

Installed IAS via programme update - rebooted and I was only getting intermittent internet connection.  Stopped the firewall and then had no connection.  Restarted the firewall no connection.  Could get windows updates and VPS updates but IE just did not want to play

Uninstalled IAS and downloaded a fresh copy - re-installed and no problems
