No Internet connection after upgrade to Pro

Was using Avast Free.  Upgraded to Pro.  Rebooted.  Everything looks great except no internet connection.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?
I checked the firewall settings and it says it is off.
What else can I do?  Need help urgently.
OS - Win XP Pro
Email - Outlook 03
DSL provider - Centurytel aka: CenturyLink
Browser - IE 7

Is it the Pro AV, or the Suite?
What version number, exactly?

Sorry, I was wrong, its the latest Avast Internet Security from the avast website.

I ended up uninstalling the Internet Security Suite, and rebooting.
Now I have network connectivity again.
I'm installing the Free version just so that I have some protection.
I still want to install the security suite, but I need to know why it killed my connectivity.
Any help you can offer, would be appreciated.

Well, I reinstalled the Free edition and all was working well.
Went to Maintenance, clicked on add License file (figured I might as well give it one more shot).
It upgraded to the Internet Security Suite and when it finished I lost all network connectivity AGAIN!
What the heck is going on with this?
Grrrrrrrr!

May be a conflict with something. Is there anything in the Firewall logs?

Well, I uninstalled Security Suite again, and put the Free on AGAIN, and yep, have connectivity again.
The one thing I did notice was that Windows firewall is on.
could that affect this somehow?
I really wouldn't think so, but...who knows.

I had that issue too, i had to downgrade to 4.8 to make it work. Because version 5.0.377 frozen my pc and blocked my internet connection.

Please, zip and upload the C:\Windows\Memory.dmp file to this anonymous ftp server: ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming

Manual dump: when the machine is in stalled state, hold down the rightmost CTRL key, and press the SCROLL LOCK key twice. This will cause a machine to 'blue-screen' and dump of memory will start.

Actually, I reported the issue to Avast tech support and here is the reply:

In fact, avast! doesn't block the Internet pages browsing if your computer is configured properly. If you have this kind of problem and turning avast! off helps, it means that one part of avast!, the Web Shield, doesn't have access to the Internet. The solution is easy - allow the Web Shield to connect to Internet in your firewall.

Ensure that the Web Shield process ashWebSv.exe or aswWebSv.exe is listed as an application that is permitted to connect to the web in your firewall configuration. It also needs a permission to act as a server and accept incoming connections from localhost (the local machine) on TCP port 12080.

Some firewall do require you have a rule for incoming connection from localhost. Please check that too.

The summary: it is NOT avast! that blocks the browsing, but your incorrectly adjusted firewall.

If you don't know how to change the appropriate settings, I recommend you to turn the Web Shield off. Don't worry, it will not reduce the security level provided by avast!.

1) Click on the blue a-ball icon in system tray to show the Resident protection settings
2) Click on the DETAILS button
3) In left pane, click on WEB SHIELD provider
4) In right pane, click on TERMINATE
5) Confirm the permanent changes with OK button(s)

So, I'm going to try this and post back to the board.  Seems like lots of people viewed this post, so I presume others may need a fix too.

Well i have tried to stop the shield or finish it, but in my case neither the first nor the second option suceed, because my pc stays in a halted state during all process, and the only thing i accomplish is to restart my pc. I cant make 5pro to run in my system. By the way, i have win7 ultimate 64 bits. And my sys details are in my signature.
