Avast labeling Apoint2K as Malware/Worm
« on: January 21, 2010, 06:56:05 PM »
About 4 days ago when I turned on my comp, Avast told me I had a virus, I put it in my Chest. Well then my Touchpad didn't work. In trying to fix thsi I realized Apoint.exe was the virus in my Chest. That is my Hewitt Packard file for my Touchpad, It's been on my comp forever, so I don't think it is a virus. Anyway, I re-installed it and the same thing happened, this time I didn't put in chest but my Touchpad isn't working again, I sent a false virus report, but how do I get my Touchpad to work if every time I re-install Avast is saying the program has a virus? I noticed at least one other person, yesterday, also had a problem with a false virus and Apoint.exe. Can anyone help me to by pass this and get my Touchpad and touch scroll back?

Thank you, I did see that, and it said the false positives would be addressed in VPS Update. I have my Avast set for automatic, so shouldn't it have updated? I still can't get my Touchpad to work, I'm not totally clueless at doing comp stuff but this is stumping me as to why I can't just re-install Apoint.exe and have it work? Any help as to what I might be missing here? Thanks in advance :)

Oh one more thing, I right click on the Apoint.exe in my Chest and click restore but it stays in my Chest, is that normal with Avast? Should I have to delete it, and will that mean another re-install of Apoint.exe?

as far as i know a copy of the restored file will remain in chest, and you can do what you want with it

Ahh success! I re-installed yet again but Touchpad still wasn't working, I went to Apoint2K folder and double clicked the app file and Touchpad is now working, I didn't realize that had to be done? Like I said this feature came with my comp and just always worked til 4 days ago after it was flagged for holding a virus, thanks for your time in responding and sorry for being low tech, but we all need to learn somehow :P

Yes it is normal, confirm that the file has been restored to the original location, if so then you can delete the copy in the chest. The last thing you want is for avast to restore and delete the file in the chest, if the restore failed there would be no copy.
