webshield blocking my internet
« on: March 22, 2010, 02:21:07 AM »
firstly, I always using avast, so I install avast5 over avast4 without uninstalling it.
afterthat, I uninstall avast 5 and avast 4 and reboot into safe mode to remove both of them using avast removal tools.

after reboot again, I still cannot access internet using all kind of browsers if I enable webshield, if webshield is off, then
the internet connection is going smoothly.
below is my PC details
OS: windows XP
firewall:XP standard firewall

Now, I also reliaze that avast also blocking my logmein client software in my computer. letmein check again for logmein software,
for time being I would like to be able to be using webshield, or is it webshield really important?

avast! 5 doesn't block logmein on my computer, nor does it block any computer that I remotely control with logmein, all the computers that I remotely control have avast! 5 on them.

I think you will find the problem elsewhere.

Opera browser cannot be used with logmein to remote control another computer, for that I use IE.

And how do you think this information will help mmusang? U don't have problem but mmusang has.

Mmusang, uninstall avast and run avast cleaner, reboot and try your logmein client software, does it work?

Goto your registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
Check the values for TEMP and TMP

Does the specified folder exist on your HDD (normally it is C:\temp)?
If not, than create that folder on your HDD, reboot.

If the keys don't exist, create them and set values to "C:\Temp", than create the folder C:\Temp on your HDD, reboot.

It's not a guaranteed solution!
But it has been reported here that this may cause the web shield to block internet access.
You may also want to check your systems date and time settings... just in case.

What do you mean by this? Could you please explain? Could you tell me where on the forum this was reported?

I doubt that... I can't remember each and every thread I look into by heart.
But why is that important?
It's a harmless operation: you just create a folder on the HDD. If it works: okay. If it doesn't: you can delete that folder again.

I would kindly ask everyone to do a clean install of Avast 5 instead of installing it over Avast 4

Please read the OPs first post again as this even after a clean reinstall the problem is still there, so nothing to do with how avast 5.0 was installed, over 4.8 or clean install of 5.0.
