Failure to install Distributed Clients
« on: March 23, 2010, 04:41:14 PM »
I'm having several issues getting the Avast client to install on remote systems.  Three specific issues, actually.

I've created installation tasks for both the Server and for the Clients.

When I try to do a remote install on the server, I get the same message that a few others have gotten, without resolution:

03/23/10 11:23:30:   TerminateAll
03/23/10 11:23:30:   rinstInstall end 0

On the client (which is not on the domain), I get:

Code: [Select]
03/23/10 10:54:59:   rinstInstall begin
03/23/10 10:54:59:   Init 50 60 C:\Windows\TEMP\asw5787.tmp C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools\InstPkgs NULL C:\Windows\TEMP\asw5786.tmp 0

03/23/10 10:55:02:   TAMMY-PC: WNetAddConnection2 \\TAMMY-PC\ADMIN$ TAMMY-PC\Admin error 5 (Access is denied)
03/23/10 10:55:02:   TAMMY-PC: RemoveOnError
03/23/10 10:55:02:   TAMMY-PC: Finished with error
03/23/10 10:55:02:   TerminateAll
03/23/10 10:55:02:   rinstInstall end 0

I've set the username info for the computer, and it IS allowing it to connect.  I was getting a different error before that:

Code: [Select]
03/23/10 10:26:09:   TAMMY-PC: WNetAddConnection2 \\TAMMY-PC\C$ TAMMY-PC\Admin error 86 (The specified network password is not correct)
03/23/10 10:26:09:   TAMMY-PC: WNetAddConnection2 \\TAMMY-PC\ADMIN$ TAMMY-PC\Admin error 1326 (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password)

I've also tried creating MSI packages for both.  The package starts to install, and then simply closes after the message "Please wait while windows prepares the Avast! installation" -- No error or anything.  This happens on both the server and the client.

Hope this is enough information.  I've had ADNM working before, but this is a new server (Windows Server 2008 with MS SQL 2008 Express)

The client is Windows 7, the server is the same machine ADNM is installed on.

I have also tried recreating the installation packages multiple times.  I'm at wits end.  Avast has always worked wonderfully for us.

I have also completely recreated the mirror.  I've given up on remote deployment at the moment, and am focusing on just generating the MSI file.  Does the MSI generate any kind of logfile to indicate why it's simply closing right after it opens?

Try to review your credentials on Windows that avast! will be installed, for workgroup is need to have a local account having permissions to software instalation, when creating the distribution task verify the accounts and passwords and try again.

If not succeed try the following:

1. In Windows XP goes to Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Option - Mode View and uncheck Use simple networking sharing (recommended)
2. Try to disable all firewalls in this machines

Run distribution task again.

The package was created with the administrator account for the domain, and contains both administrator information for the local machine and the domain it's on.  The firewall is off, and it's running server 2008 (So no simple file sharing).  Still nothing.  It just closes.

It finally installed on the Windows 7 client, after I turned User Access Control down to nothing.  But still no luck getting it to install on the server.  I get:

Code: [Select]
03/30/10 14:28:08:   FILESERVER: Creating service
03/30/10 14:28:08:   FILESERVER: Starting service
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: ReadProgress
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: Remote service failed, error 126 (The specified module could not be found)
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: Finished with error in remote service
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: ReadLog
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: See remote log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools\DATA\log\OFFICE_FILESERVER.log
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: RemoveProgress
03/30/10 14:29:01:   FILESERVER: CloseConnection
03/30/10 14:29:01:   TerminateAll
03/30/10 14:29:01:   rinstInstall end 0

If I look at C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Management Tools\DATA\log\OFFICE_FILESERVER.log

Code: [Select]
03/30/10 14:28:08:   InstSvc begin
03/30/10 14:28:08:   avast! Remote Install Service
03/30/10 14:28:08:   InstSvc end 0

Not much to go on...

Have you tried to deploy the .msi package to the servers? It may be the quickest way to get the servers to talk to ADNM, especially if the network has some permission issues blocking the normal deployment routine.

You can create an MSI by configuring a new deployment task.

Just found out what my problem was. I'm deploying to computers under active directory. The username I provided in the 'Login Account' section in the task's properties was not properly entered. Instead of just 'adminname' it was supposed to be 'DOMAIN\adminname' where 'adminname' is the username for the administrative account on the network. I hope this helps you out.
