what this sandbox of avast 5.0 do?

hi friends i m really wondaring about this sandbox thing. i m browsing my mozila browser in this sandbox but doesnot have a clue what its doing,the help page is not much of a help either, i tkink, can it be used in other thing?

It basically puts everything that you're browsing into a "virtual space" where it does not directly affect the computer.

So, in a sense, if you browse a malicious site, and a script tries to install something, the virtual space will be affected, not your computer.  Once you close that browser, the malicious code will be removed, and no harm done to your computer.

As Tech said there is an explanation which isn't a complex technical explanation, see image extract of help file. Basically it isolates the program that you are running in the sandbox (virtual environment) from the rest of the computer.
