Antivir Solution Pro
« on: August 01, 2010, 09:39:30 PM »
Antivir Solution Pro has cropped up, which locks up almost every application and website. Avast does not stop it or even recognize it during a scan.

Hi

You can get rid of it using MBAM: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
# Install Malwarebytes’ Anti-Mawlare program;
# Follow the instructions and pick “default” options as those are the best options for you;
# Choose to “Update” and “Launch” Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware during the installation process;
# After the program is installed and updated, it will automatically launch;
# If you feel it’s necessary or if the update process failed during installation, then click “Update” once again in the software’s homescreen;
# Click “Scan” and make sure that it’s a complete scan;
# After the scan is complete, click to “Show Results”;
# Mark all threats detected by Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and then click “Remove Selected”;
# The threats will now be removed and you will have to restart your computer,

wont work. After you choose launch and update nothing happens except that a small window pops up saying mbam.exe command is infected do you want to activate your antivirus software now?  Which is what it does when you wanna open everything else....Darn.

Try renaming mbam.exe to my_mbam_run.exe and try again as the malware may be just looking for mbam.exe and blocking based on the name alone. You can always change it back after.

I have gotten rid of the problem using malware bytes running under safe mode.

That is good.
MBAM works best in normal mode, so update MBAM and do a quick scan in normal mode just to be sure.......if not already done...

Having bit of trouble getting rid of this bugger, it might even be gone already.  Firefox works, IE, Safari, Chrome dont   none of the gadgets that are on the right side show any internet connectivity like stock prices, news updates etc.

Defender lists the malwarebytes program as blocked.

This might mean something- this computer is a dell from best buy and they did the initial setup of the spyware and drivers before I added Avast?

no annoying pop ups that signified the virus but only one browser works

Antivir stopped me from doing anything on the internet, I did a system restore to get rid of it.
Why did avast not block it?

The reason for the growth in numbers is what is known in technical terminology as ‘polymorphism', an old defence technique which involves changing the binary checksum of every copy (or download) of a piece of malware. This makes it much more difficult for antivirus programs to detect the programs.
