PowerChute Personal Edition 3.0 and a blocked DLL file
« on: March 01, 2011, 11:15:49 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just got a warning of a file called mscorlib.ni.dll that APC PowerChute (or one of it's executables, I remember it being some sort of update executable) tried to access, blocking it. Now my PowerChute says "Energy usage not being monitored - APC Data Service not running". I'm quite sure it's a false positive, but I can't seem to find any logs about this, the only thing I can see is Last file infected in File System Shield window. Also, I can't seem to be able to find the file in question anymore.

Wasn't it moved to the Chest?

Nope, nothing in Virus Chest.
Edit: It seemed to have disabled APC Data Service (a service, from Services.msc / Administration tools). Starting the service again makes PowerChute not complain about a missing service. So probably no harm done, I'm just thinking it might have tried to check for updates... which would be kinda nice to see working rather than being blocked by Avast next time it tries to do that.

Another edit: For more info on my system, I'm running Windows 7 X64 and Avast 6.0.1000.

Ensure that you have the latest virus definitions update as I believe this detection has been corrected - 110301-2.

I'm getting this on my Windows 7 system and I am going to reboot to see if I get 110301-2 update.

Just open the software and click 'maintenance' then 'Update engine and virus definitions'.

You say that now, I was clear for 15mins and the damn thing started again (but not so often) so something is still wrong somewhere.
