Web pages won't load unless I disable Avast?
« on: April 01, 2011, 01:20:31 PM »
I recently downloaded Avast Antivirus 6.0.1000, but ever since I installed it web pages won't load unless I disable Avast.

I've tried on 3 different browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome.

Does anybody know what I can do to fix this?

Thanks
Aniruti

same problem

Brand new in install of Win XP with all updates network connection is fine. there are no other firewalls or AV.

Avast 6 will update but no web access for browsers. I can ping google.com

I need a solution to this ASAP as I have to roll out this image tomorrow.

If I disable the web shield internet works enable it again it stops. Seems like the webshield may be the problem.

Cheers
Richard

The latest version is 6.0.1125

http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Or try updating via the UI. Open avast interface and then update the program.
Windows 7 64-bit SP1
avast! free 6, windows firewall, ie9 & firefox, proxpn, keepass 2, visual c# 2010 express

First try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Vista, win7 - Repair of avast. Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

You may need to reboot after the repair.

If that doesn't resolve it, the only thing I can suggest is doing a clean reinstall:
- Download the latest version of avast, 6.0.1125 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.

problem still unresolved

With webshield on it blocks all internet traffic except if I use an ip address ie for google it works. So avast is using DNS blocking.
Turn webshield off every thing works.

This also applies to Chrome so its not an IE problem.

This is a clean install of windows. I have done everything suggested so far but it doesnt solve the issue

Any ideas?

Registered to say I have exactly the same problem. Installed Avast a couple of days ago and websites refuse to load unless I disable webshield, wait a few mins and then enable it again. Otherwise I can sit here all day and no sites will load at all. Very annoying.

Followed instructions in this thread and none of it has helped.
