Avast 5 and Final Fantasy 11
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:05:48 AM »
Afternoon,

i was running 4.8 and i guess my 3 years was about up.  the app kept giving me popups for 5 internet security w/ all the bells and whistles so i finally gave in and bought the 20.00 version.  Once installed and playing Final Fantasy 11 every .75 seconds i get a minor screen glitch that's driving me crazy.  I put an exclusion into the real-time scan for the folder path and that didnt work.  i have now disabled Avast for 10 minutes and that didnt work.

Any ideas before i regret updating to V5 and doing a system restore back to 4.8 pro?

Thanks.

You should have been able to go to avast6, which is the latest version 6.0.1289 and not just avast5

So I would suggest that you do a clean install of avast Internet Security version 6.0.1289:

- Download the latest version of avast, 6.0.1289 http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn't save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for 4.8 and 5.x).
  • 1. Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step), reboot.
  • 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.x, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  • 3. install the latest version, reboot.

Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

That topic is also over a year old, so wouldn't be for the version you are using right now.

Unfortunately I don't use the AIS version or a gamer, so I can't be any practical help.

Personally I would still suggest a clean install to make sure you have a clean start.

Check the behavouor shield log and see if there are any game files listed and try adding them to the behavior shield, expert settings, trusted processes.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report\BehaviorShield.txt (XP) Or (C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report\BehaviorShield.txt)

It is almost 1:30am here and I'm calling it a night, hopefully someone in the same time zone can pick up on this.

Yup,  Disabling NDIS fixed it like a champ

OK, but in doing so you are effectively disabling the firewall, this from one of the avast developers in the topic you linked to:

By disabling the NDIS filter, you completely disable avast! firewall.

So I wouldn't say that was a viable solution.

i guess ill try a system restore and get 4.8 back.
