Internet Mail Problem Again
« on: November 16, 2004, 12:34:13 AM »
When I was on the computer earlier today, everything was working properly.
Now, it's showing--Again-- that the internet provider is waiting for a subsystem to start. (7 providers, 5 running)
I sent a test message to myself and it is not showing the usual text of being scanned, date, etc.
I rebooted and also shut down, but it did not clear it up like it did before.
Why is this happening again??

cojo

anyone??
I thought this problem was solved on my system! why would it start up again?

Why is this happening again??

Can you go
Start > Administrative Tools > Services > ashMaiSv.exe (the Mail Service of avast) and see how it starts? I mean, Automatic, Manual or Disabled?

Technical, it's showing it's set to manual. When I tried starting it, the following message came up:
Could not start Avast! Mail Scanner service on local computer. Error 183 Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I can't understand why it was fine before and now it's not...I did absolutely nothing except go offline and then log on again after a few hours!
thanks!

Cojo, have you right clicked on the Avast  "a".> then go to access control>
left click on that>then  left click on Internet Mail> then left click on custom. After that you can find your choices of Avast adding its stamp on your incoming and outgoing e-mails. :)

I checked it, Neal, and it is already set for the stamps. It's still showing that it's waiting for a subsystem to start.
I also checked my error log but all it is showing is the message from Saturday--when I first had the problem.

NT Authority\ Syst  1676  AAVM Initialization Error unhandled exception

Still showing 7 providers/5 running as of right now...

Ok, it's right: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=8757

It's right again, the system is trying to create ashMaiSv.exe I imagine and it's still there. Don't worry, let's focus on your problem. I just ask to know what is happening.

Which email program do you use?

I use OE, Technical...

ashMaiSv.exe is showing in my Task Manager processes (?) so shouldn't it be working?

Thanks Cojo about the Avatar. I only show that I have 5 out of 6 providers running here? Wonder why you show 7? :)

It's working...
If you close all OE instances running, will be the provider shown the same?
If you open OE, will the provider start?

Technical,
I shut down OE--stills shows ashMaiSv.exe running and if I hover over the a icon, it shows 7 providers, 5 running.
It's the same thing when I brought it back up, but on-access still says "waiting for a subsystem to start."

oh, gosh, am I confused about why it's doing this!
I'm going to shut everything down and start over and see if that solves it...like it did before.

I shut everything down, Technical...and now it's working correctly again!
I checked before and after I started OE.
On-Access shows internet provider currently running, and now have 6 of 7 providers running.

This is very frustrating! Why would it do this??
If it happens again, how would I manually start the provider? Sorry...I'll look up how to do it.

Computer is not a deterministic world  :P

Yes, you can try this or, if you forgot, boot again.
You know, booting is a kind of the computer panaceia  ;)

Thanks, my friend...

I just hate the thought of having to check it every time I log on, and possibly having to shut it down to get it to work correctly.

thank you for helping me, Technical!

Yeah, it will be boring... But it should work without problems...
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).  ;)
