Win32:Malware reported in Adobe Acrobat Std 7.1.0
« on: November 05, 2011, 01:40:38 AM »
Been using Avast!Free since June 2011 but on 4 November 2011 it started preventing Adobe Acrobat Standard vers 7.1.0 from running. About 60 seconds after launching Acrobat I get an error message from Adobe saying:

An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application.

and a message from Avast reporting that it has detected a threat and moved the file to the chest. The details are:

Original file name   ~df394b.tmp
Original folder C:\Documents and Settings\Greg\Local Settings\Temp\Adobelm_Cleanup.0001.dir.0000
Size of file      697884
Virus description   Win32:Malware-gen

Adobe Acrobat shuts down. This happens whether or not I am connected to the internet. I have run a full scan and Avast reports the same file as a threat. I have run a boot-time scan and Avast reports a BTdialler file as a PUP but I assume that is a false positive and not connected to the Acrobat problem. Nothing Else.

Is this a real Win32:Malware infection or a False Positive? I’ve moved the file to a different computer and scanned it with a different AV program and it is not reported as infected. Any ideas on what to do gratefully received as I need to use Acrobat.

Ensure that you have the latest virus definitions, version 111105-0 which has just been released. I know that corrects another issue with .tmp files, I think it was in relation to Acrobat, so it might also correct this also.

Many thanks, I was on definitions version 111104. The update to 111105-0 seems to have cured the problem
