False Positives?
« on: March 21, 2012, 12:46:33 PM »
Hello. I've been using the personal avast for many years and prior to that Norton AV as well as Internet secuirty.  Today I decided to try your Internet Security and when I did the initial full scan, it showed the following viruses:

msvcr80.dll
msvcp80.dll
msvcm80.dll

I deleted them as per the recommendation.
From what I see online, these do not seem to be dangerous files and I have not had any PC problems.  Avast personal never found this and like I said, I just switched.  Is there a false positive issue with these files?  Not sure if it matters but PUP is disabled.

What malware was reported in those files?
Have you really deleted the files, or rather moved them to Chest?

It showed HIGH severity and recommended to delete them.  It showed THREAT: Rootkit Hidden File.  I plan on recovering soon so when it finds these again, what should I do and until I recover, will this affect my OS or other applications?
