Firefox update malware Too
« on: February 13, 2012, 02:01:08 AM »
I have been trying to follow the recent posts over the last week or so on the Firefox update malware. I appear to be having the same issues with the majority of the processes originating from the c:/program files/common files/comobjects/update.exe file. I have also seen c:/windows/system32/ws2_32.dll which I don't believe anyone else has posted to this point. Most of the pop-up occur late in the evening hours.

Hi after the first run you will get some error warnings on start - once I have determined the reg launch point we will remove them

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

If you have Malwarebytes 1.6 or better installed please disable it for the duration of this run

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
    Quote
    :OTL
    [2011/11/12 00:56:21 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M](C:\Program Files\win?ows nt) -- C:\Program Files\win?ows nt
    [2011/11/12 00:56:21 | 000,000,000 | ---D | M](C:\Program Files\win?ows nt) -- C:\Program Files\win?ows nt

    (C:\Program Files\win?ows nt) -- C:\Program Files\win?ows nt

    :Files
    ipconfig /flushdns /c
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ComObjects\js3260.dll
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ComObjects\js3250.dll
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ComObjects\update.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ComObjects\data.js

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
THEN

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
Code: [Select]
:regfind
data.js
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.

The latest scan seemed to run without issue and the computer started without any warnings. The new scan log is attached.
I don't see the update.exe process running anymore, hopefully a good sign. Everything appears to be in good order. Thank you for your assistance.

The computer seems to be running really well again, no signs of malware at this point. I really appreciate your help over the last week getting things cleaned off my computer. It's nice knowing this service is available although I hope I will not need it again:) Thanks again.
