Avast free 7.0 slowing down internet

Since I installed the free 7.0 version of Avast on my new computer last week, my internet browsing speed has slowed down. I use Chrome as my browser, and it takes about 2 seconds longer to connect to a page and fully finish downloading the page. Not a huge problem, but since I jusr purchased my Mac, I would like it at optimal speed. Any help?

Close your browser, open avast, go in WebRep, uninstall the application for your browsers and then you can return on the internet with a good speed. (sorry for my english I'm french.)

I have exactly the same problem. I am using Chrome on a Mac running Lion.
When I go to Web Rep, it tells me that the extension for Chrome is not installed.
