Is avast! compatible with other anti-malware programs?
« on: June 13, 2012, 05:32:30 PM »
I was wondering if avast! Free was compatible with other anti-malware programs such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I'm a little paranoid about this topic (viruses, malware, etc.) so I like to have at least two running. If one goes down I have another running.

Thanks for your reply,
Brad

avast! and Malwarebytes work well together if you create the exceptions listed on the Malwarebytes forum.

Many users here use the 2 products together.

That is fantastic. I'm a fan of both programs. They did seem a little chummy together. When I had them both installed, and ran my avast! Screensaver, a Malwarebytes result popped up instead of an avast! result.

Look at me personifying two anti-malware programs :P

Yes, just browse the forums and you will see many user signatures showing other anti-spy/malware applications they use.

If using two anti-malware applications (not avast) then only one of those should be resident, the other on-demand or they could possibly conflict.

I don't think I can have MBAM resident with the free version.

(Sorry to ask two topics, I had a couple questions I needed to ask)

Its compatible with all of these running in real-time on a W8-RP OS.

1. avast! AIS 7
2. SAS Pro 5.0
3. IMF Pro 1.4
4. Panda cloud anti-virus (PVAC) 1.92 Beta without the Firewall enabled.  I decided to keep the avast! AIS 7 firewall enabled.
5. System Security Guard

They all make nice with one another.  Been running them together for over a week and through a number of reboots like for the Windows 2nd Tuesday of the month updates.   In fact programs #2 - #4 have caught stuff that avast! AIS 7 missed.  FP's could be.
OS: W7-SP1, Security: AIS 7, SAS Pro, WinPatrol Plus Network:2 Dell 570MT x64 1 Dell 660 Desktop with 8GB RAM Default Browser & Email: Firefox & Thunderbird latest Betas

Panda Anti-Virus.. whoa, what a blast from the past.

That's good though. I already have SAS and Spybot. I wasn't worried much about anti-spyware programs.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what is an "FP"?

I already set the exclusions for MBAM in avast! and vice versa. They seem to be working fine :)

Thanks for the clarification.

spyboot is obsolete......unless you need a program to remove tracking cookies
they release a small update once a week.....mbam have 5-10 every day

I've always been a loyal SpyBot user. It saved my butt from some pretty nasty spyware years ago.

I'd hate to hear its obsolete. But, I jumped on the bandwagon and got SAS. It's pretty neat.
