Questions before purchase

Postby Thomas123 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 11:44 pm

Hello,
I'm seriously interested in your app but I still have several questions before purchasing it even after looking at the others threads.

1 - Is it possible to wipe DATA (contacts, gmail login&pwd, sms and maybe even photos) without wiping Theft aware itself so you can still track your phone after if the phone isn't rooted ?
2 - Is theft aware running in background constantly and thus pumping battery ? Is it possible to keep it turned off and only activate it after a sim card change or an activate sms order like some others anti theft softwares do ? Smartphones have already a short battery life so I would rather avoid using an app that is draining the battery 24/7.

I also think that your app lacks two major features : - being able to get a picture from the front camera when the phone is being used (like at the moment the user unlock the screen) ; - being able to issue the commands from a webpage.

Thanks for your answers and keep up the good work !

1. TA does wipe the entire phone, but keeping TA with a noonrooted phone wont be easy.
2. Well its in the background yea but not pumping battery, its like keeping your gps turned on.

Well in your example, it would take a picture everytime the screen is unlocked unless you might send a lost command first hm, guess its not possible to make it a setting. But it will keep using datatraffic/sms = high costs for some who doesnt have a dataplan.

Thanks for your answer. I thought TA was able to locate/know his own folder and be able to delete everything except that, I didn't think it was difficult.

GPS always on does pump a lot of battery, so if it's like leaving gps on all the time I'm a bit scared...

The photo thingy would only work after a lost or stolen order. You could also limit the number of times a picture is sent. I guess most of the people wouldn't care about paying 1€ of data traffic if it may give you a chance to have your phone back, also many people that use a smartphone have a plan with some data included.

Well no it doesnt really know since it performs a factoryreset/wipe of the phone and empties the memorycard.
Well I havent noticed any more batteryconsumption and i keep my gps on, although its rooted so TA can turn it off.

True, most of them have a dataplan but not me and sometimes you run out of $ on your phone and then its pretty useless :P

in terms of battery, I don't see any difference on my phone.
I think the main thing is that TA is not doing anything unless it gets a command.
