INTRODUCING: New pre-release build of avast [5.0.415]
« on: February 09, 2010, 09:12:39 PM »
The program update has now been officially released as 5.0.418.
Thanks to everyone who helped testing.

Hi *,

we'll soon be releasing a new build of avast 5 Free/Pro/IS. As usual, we're making the build available for public testing before it's officially released.

How to get it
links removed

How to install it
Just run the setup executable (links above). You can either install it from scratch, or on top of an existing avast installation (installing over both 5.0.xxx or 4.8.yyy should be fine). A reboot will be required to complete the installation

What's new
Most notable improvements include:
- stability improvements in the Behavior Shield
- an attempt to solve the compatibility issue with MBAM Pro
- improvements in the rootkit scanner
- solved a vulnerability in AavmKer4.sys (Windows 2000/XP only)
- firewall: low-level packet rules are back in the Expert settings
- new languages: Traditional Chinese, Swedish, Korean, Bulgarian, Hungarian. This makes the current number of supported languages 16

Bottom line: we're hoping that this build will finally solve the remaining bsod/hang issues.

Thanks much
Vlk

PS. Just a while ago, we have launched the new website in Japanese and Polish. This makes the number of languages in which the new website is available 8 (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese and Polish). More are coming soon.

Hi VLK. I hope you remember to fix the problem in the transition from free to paid versions of Internet Security version. For some reason the firewall couldnt turn on even after clicking on the manual activation button.  ::) did not check whether it is in this version repaired.

I hope they do better than "attempt" to fix the MBAM compatibility issue.  :P

*Gibbs slap*

Downloading now.... I'm sure any attempt from the avast team would be far better than the best effort of mine.

I'm not too sure about it. It's a typical "two AV's running at the same time" type of conflict. Windows was simply not designed to handle that.

Hi Isn't MBAM an anti-spyware app like SAS etc.?

It doesn't matter in this case. The MBAM realtime protection works exactly the same as a typical AV.

WOW so that's why there's a problem. I actually had the problem before I installed Avast!. It appeared as soon as I upgraded to the real time version. That was a week before I installed Avast! and I was using NOD32. Perhaps the MBAM folks could modify in some way.

I've just installed this pre-release build on the top of ver. 5.0.396 with no problems at all - the update went smoothly and quickly :).

Thank you for your work guys!
