Title: Script Shield not working with Chrome
Post by: ManFromOz on December 13, 2012, 07:48:41 AM
Windows 7 SP1 x64 - Free Avast! AV 7.0.1474

I have successfully applied the patch to fix Script Shield when using Firefox 17.0.1 and was wondering if there is a similar patch to get Script Shield to work while using the latest version of Google Chrome.

Sorry I don't use Chrome, so I don't know if this is script shield only or chrome or both. All I can suggest is a forum search for script shield and chrome as this has been covered before I'm sure.

Thanks David.

Search results for Script Shield Chrome only returns my post.  Not so helpful.

Thanks Alievitan.  I can't be alone then.

Cheers,

Edit: I tried another search and now have a bit of reading to do.

OK, I have read several threads about the Script Shields not working in Google Chrome going back a long time, so I guess unless this is fixed in the next release of avast! it's not likely to be fixed.

Tried out avast shield for Google Chrome with the eicar test virus. Google Chrome prevents the download, Google Safebrowsing alerts, MS Defender alerts the eicar download file, but avast shield does not work. Also had continuous problems with avast web rep in the Google Chrome browser. Assume it is the continuous Google Chrome updating and restrictive api access that is hindering the avast shield and extension. Funny because BitDefender's trafficlight and Trustwave Secure browsing are normally functioning in Google Chrome. No alert is shown, but the blocking in Google Chrome just is done...

So what you're saying is for users who use Chrome, script shièld is an unnecessary install?

In my Google Chrome browser the shields are now normally working. In browser protection in the Google User Interface use settings.
Tested the avast Web Shield blocking with htxp://www.creepyunclejoe.com and it neatly alerted blocking of a  JS:Illredir-C[Trj] infection. So it must be either your settings or check whether you use some sort of proxy for Google Chrome....(see advanced settings)

The other shields are working while using Chrome, but not Script shield.
