Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)
If you think you have a malware infection than follow this guide and attach the required logs with your next post(s) http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

And create a topic in the virus and Worms forum section where you do that.....as that is the correct place for posting virus problems

Thanks DJB... however I'm confused. Why should I be using all the other software that your link requires when I have Avast? Surely the point of having Avast is for IT to find the problem bugs. I'm currently running a full scan from the avast Internet Security Suite right now.
I'm not questioning your help, merely trying to understand the logic of it.
Thanks again

No security program have 100% detection.....and since you post here, we guess you have a problem?
If avast does not detect whatever you think is there....follow the guide
Adwcleaner will remove any browser/toolbar crap
Malwarebytes will remove additional malware.....if it detect any
OTL will produse a diagnostic log
aswMBR will produse a rootkit diagnostic log
when done a removal Expert will check logs and help you.....later today

Thanks for the explanation, Pondus. The Avast Full Scan has completed 53% and found nothing after 14+ hours. I know I have problems as Firefox is popping up unwanted ads in multiple windows / tabs. Should I abandon the full scan and run what is being suggested in the sticky post or let it continue?
Thanks for all your help.

Stop the scan and post the logs.

Thanks Asyn I'll get on to that straight away and post in the Virus and Worms section.
