Title: Free? Not!
Post by: 666AV666 on February 16, 2014, 11:35:38 AM
I have twice downloaded and installed "Avast for Mac Free", and both times it began nagging for payment after about 11 days, and stopped working at 14 days. If it is just a trial, why is it called "FREE"?  >:(

It'srather rude to be snarky instead of just explaining.
I guess if the staff here is this rude, I'll stick with iAntivirus.

Since when is asking a question or pointing you to the solution rude?
Besides, we are not staff.
We are users like you who spend their time trying to help others for free.

It seems the secret pathway is in the web suport pages, but not on the screen after installing the "FREE" app. When it starts timing out, it doesn't say "We're just kidding! It's really free if you know how to search on our website and find the secret free code."

This is idiotic. I'll never use such a product with a convoluted Chinese puzzle of how to make it free.

How is it difficult or puzzling ? You are given the registration screens during installation.

My 11 year old nephew can manage it ..........

6, next time look at the screen when installing something.

And it never hurts to do a little reading:

avast! Free Antivirus 7.x for Mac should be then installed on your system and ready to use. But it works for 30 days in trial mode after the installation. During this period you need to register to get your free license to continue to use the program and remain protected against the very latest threats.

All of the people who have posted in this thread volunteer. So treat them with respect and they'll do the same.
2) I've been using Avast! Free for over 5yrs now w/o an issue. I started setting Avast! up when I was 10. It really is not that hard if you were tp pay attention to what it says. Hence Eddy's quote.
3) Try not to get PO'd because something you find is difficult. Better to ask then to get mad.

4) And note: It is your choice, However, Symantec as a whole sucks and will probably slow your PC down. Read some of the reviews here: http://community.spiceworks.com/product/1902-symantec-endpoint-protection

What half of the reviews are 3stars or less?

First 20, 13 were submitted with a 3 star or less. (65% failed in the review)

I use the free version on Mac and I've never had a problem... If you read the instructions as you install, you shouldn't be prompted to pay. Every year I have to get a new free license though.
