Title: AVS Definitions Update Seemingly Not Working
Post by: jan714 on August 12, 2005, 03:53:01 PM
Have been a devoted Avast! user for two years and this is the first time this has happened.  Background:  WinXP, broadband connection.

Noticed the little red warning message that the Avast! update did not work.  Right clicked on the spinning Avast! globe and chose UPDATING > !AVS UPDATE ... nothing happens.

Rebooted machine.  After completion of reboot, Windows Security Alert box opens advising me my antivirus definitions may not be current.  I opened the Avast! Simple User Interface and tried executing the update from there ... no response.

Since this is the first evolution of this situation, I'm a bit stumped.   I have a valid registration and all other functions of Avast! (email guarding, etc.) seem to be working just fine.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

??? Have you tried repairing avast! installation?
        Add/Remove Programs>Avast! Antivirus>Change/Remove>Repair

Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I've already that which you suggest.  The result is an error message that states:

     avast!
A setiface error has occurred:  2
Try to reinstall, or contact Support please.

Forgive the delay in responding, xmas.  Had a minor emergency to contend with before I could get back to this board.

To answer your question, yes, I did reinstall it ... however, it's worth mentioning that I had to reinstall it it TWICE for the problem to vanish.  Seems to be working fine now.  Have a new computer coming any day now so I'll need to repeat the process all over again.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my query.
