I cannot send emails and receive this message,
"Subject 'Test'
Server Error: 421
Server Response: 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 193.252.22.187 (193.252.22.187:25), NB connect error 1460
Server: 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC67
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Having searched around Google it appears that this could be Avast stopping me accessing Port 25.
I am not technically minded and I would appreciate some comment and perhaps help in how I resolve the problem.

right click avast tray icon and pause shields ... does it work now?
if not, then it is not a avast problem

Thank you for the responses, I disabled the webshields and I still couldn't send emails, so I will contact my ISP.

you should disable Mailshield .... not webshield
-
Thanks for the clarification, I have specifically unchecked the Mailshield box and nothing has changed.
I haven't restarted my PC after the unchecking, as I have a lot of active work at the moment, I don't know if that is a requirement.
I will try that later.
I can still receive emails on the account, just not send them.

Avast's Mail Shield would normally intercept emails so they can be scanned before they are sent or actually received.
Do you have any SSL/TLS (secure) email connections ?
Whilst this is a standard SMTP port 25 connection avast may be trying to send it as a secure connection, but I don't see anything in your error information to support that. Try this and see if it helps AvastUI > Settings > Active Protection > Mail Shield > Customize > SSL Scanning - uncheck the Scan SSL connections.
Though why this should still be happening even after disabling the Mail Shield is somewhat strange, enable the Mail Shield again and try the above.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried that now and there is no change.

Have you disabled avast! from the tray icon and then tried? By that I mean all shields.
If that doesn't fix it, I doubt the problem is avast!
If it does, it must be the ports regarding SSL/TLS

Have you already tried setting op the email from scratch or with another email client ?

My ISP say there are no issues with their email system and cannot understand why I cannot use it to send emails.
I have also reset my email connections and I am still receiving mail at the address, just can't send any.
I have carried out all the routes suggested in the above posts, apart from uninstalling Avast.
I run two other email address , both of which are working perfectly for sending and receiving.
Life is too short to get hung up about things like this, so I am replying to emails to the "suspect" address, by referring them to one of my other addresses.
When I think this exercise is complete, I will dump the "suspect" address.
I appreciate the assistance given.
