Title: Avast keeps blocking files from exclusions
Post by: REDACTED on February 06, 2018, 10:47:24 PM
I'm using Godot, a game engine used to create games. Almost every time I try to save something, errors like this appear:

I thought that it's a problem with the editor, but we are sometimes using it at university and there the errors don't appear. So if something is blocking my files for no reason, that's antivirus, right? I disabled all Avast shields for 10 minutes and the errors stopped appearing. At all. As soon as the shield started again, the error spam continued.

I tried to add proper directories to exclusions (in settings), but that doesn't seem to work at all. Whatever path combination I put, Avast still seems to block these files. This doesn't happen all the time though, because sometimes I'm able to save successfully. Here's how my exclusions look right now:

Did I set something incorrectly?

After more research, it's Behavior Shield that's causing the issue. However, adding exceptions in component settings doesn't help either.

Any advice pls? ;_;

Avast should make it easier to add exclusions.Most Avast users are not rookies and can tell if something is a true threat.It kept deleting Registry First Aid because Rose City just updated it.Even on Virus Total it was being detected by 12 AVs.Sending it to Avast got it put in Lockdown.AutoRuns only had 2 AVs detect it.I think I finally got the exclusions right but it was not easy to do.

Unlike your statement, most users are total novices. Making things easy puts then at greater risk.

My problem is not that I don't know how to add them, but they just don't seem to work. Disabling Behavior Shield does help, but when I add the files to exclusions, it just doesn't change a thing. Is it possible that directory exclusion is broken and I have to add specific files? (although that would be impossible, because file list keeps changing)
How did you fix your issue?

I realized that this is dumb to have one component permanently turned off just to be able to use some software (which isn't malicious at all). The Behavior Shield is probably there for a reason, so I won't have full protection. This isn't my first problem with Avast, I had lots of false reports and my exclusions are a mess right now. But since I now have a problem that can't be solved with exclusions (apparently), I just give up. I'm uninstalling my Avast right now. There's lots of other free antivirus software that isn't as annoying, but offer the same or better protection. So farewell and good riddance.
