Title: BUG: ADNM Installer with MSDE
Post by: willmanley on October 31, 2006, 12:08:31 PM
Hi,

Spotted this bug with the installer process which could cause significant amounts of time if you don't realise what you've done. If you specify NO password for SA, the Avast instance is not created and no warning is given by the installer process. This probably means that you don't use the parameter for MSDE installer for blank passwords. You should give the same options for allowing for blank passwords as does the MSDE for consistency otherwise just force them to enter a password during the installer process.

Just thought I'd flag this up because otherwise you think that the product doesn't work if your a new user.

Hope this feedback helps,

Will

Will,

thanks a lot for this useful suggestion. I'll have someone have a look at it... It indeed sounds like an easy fix (my suggestion would be to disallow blank sa password).

Cheers
Vlk

on SBS version it didnt vreate an instance name and that crashed with the servers own msde...

i would recommend you to create a instance name as default.... in example "avast" so it is named "MSSQL$AVAST"
