Title: Boot hangs on aswrvrt.sys
Post by: nitchioo on May 09, 2021, 07:15:44 AM
Hi all,

I understand this is an Avast file (possibly scans for virus via the USB) and now is corrupt. I was using a new version of Vivaldi to download a PDF file and the dialog box wouldn't open. After checking Task Manager, 1000 instances of Vivaldi had opened and the PC was grinding to a halt. After hard reset, it now hangs on boot. I am using win 7 64bt. My BIOS boot options don't include a USB, but do include a CD and i have access to a CD burner.

I created a windows boot disk and tried restoring to an earlier time. This did not fix the issue.

I also thought another way may be to boot to command prompt using RUFUS or similar and delete the file but further research has indicated that Avast may have a tool to fix the issue. I have followed the "If you cannot  Boot the computer" http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0 to get here.

Any help sincerely appreciated.

Does anyone have the instructions for the recovery console download for 64bit machines?
