Title: Avast is incompatible with Windows Vista Business!
Post by: StardustOne on August 11, 2007, 03:27:46 PM
Hi,

I have Windows Vista Business since a few months. Avast is incompatible with Windows Vista because it is not starting automatically when Windows Vista Business is started.

I am using the latest Avast Home version 4.7.1029.

I always get the error message from Vista Business "Windows has blocked some startup programs". Windows prevents the program "Avast service GUI component" and blocks it from running at startup. It is blocked because it is not compatible with Windows Vista Business. Because of this, no other Avast components are loaded into memory which leaves my computer unprotected to the rest of the world!

I always have to start the component manually what is most annoying, this is a complete joke.

Please fix this incompatibility as soon as possible.

Best regards,
StardustOne

Can you post a screenhot of the Vista about box? (it contains full version of the OS).

Thanks

OK, thanks for that, but I rather meant the window that's displayed when you e.g. run the "winver" command.

And since we're already at it, I'd also apreciate if you could post the screenshot of the incompatibility message you're getting.

Thanks

I'm ready to buy a notebook with Vista Business, is avast really incompatible? I'm sad, I never even read about this before.

Ok, 2nd try, I hope it helps:

[img=http://img460.imageshack.us/img460/258/winverscreenshotgz5.th.jpg] (http://img460.imageshack.us/my.php?image=winverscreenshotgz5.jpg)

The message screen shot is difficult to take because windows shows this message in the task list after a restart but only for a few seconds.

My Vista Business thinks Avast seems to need additional rights at startup and completely prevents it from starting up.

The result of this is: Avast does not start up when I start up or restart my PC which is a Notebook.

When I restart WindowsVista Business, there is no red ball, no blue ball in fact there is no ball at all. And there are no Avast components whatsoever visible in the task list.

After I manually start the blocked at startup module "Avast! service GUI component", the Avast virus protection asks for confirmation to start and after I confirm it's ok to start I get the blue ball and all is fine until the next restart of Windows Vista Business takes place.

Very strange  :-[

What confirmation are you talking about, exactly?

Thanks

Windows Vista asks me to confirm to allow the Avast component to start when l select the blocked program from the list.

I tried to remove Avast and to install it again, it does not help.

I'm still a bit confused.
From which list are you running the "avast component"?

Are you refering to the Windows Defender list?

yes it's the defender list. I can disable it but then I get the red shield from the security center.

Hello, i think that there is something special because usually avast! starts fine in windows vista business no matter on xXX. What account was use for install avast? Are you true administrator (i think if UAC was turn off)?

Hi, yes I know it is strange. I also have a notebook with Windows Vista Ultimate and on this system there is no problem with Avast.

The problem PC has been updated from XP to Vista Business and I was admin before I upgraded to Vista Business and I am admin now also. This UAC is turned on, I did not change the setting.

Can you try something?

1. completely uninstall avast and delete avast folder
2. restart
3. Switch off UAC
4. restart
5. install avast as administrator

Thanks

I'd say it's something with the Windows Defender settings. Have you customized it in any way?

Cheers

Tried it, as soon as I turn on UAC again Avast will not start automatically and my pc is unprotected after a restart.

Well since the UAC is a very stupid and annoying thing, I turn it off forever and I disable the shield icon forever as well.

I hated all these confirmation UAC Vista messages anyway. It seems that there is no other fix to solve my issue than to cripple the Windows security.

I did not alter the Windows Defender, I wouldn't even know how. But I wished I could get rid of this waste of resources Windows Defender program.
