Title: How to export certificates in Avast One?
Post by: klkitchens on April 07, 2022, 07:05:59 PM
Since April 1, Thunderbird has no longer been working with Avast One.  All the solutions online (for older AVG and Avast) show going into settings, searching for a setting and exporting certificates to load into Thunderbird.

However, Avast One has no setting search bar or at least not one that is visible by default and no apparent way to export certificates.

Is there a hidden setting menu somewhere?  Spent a long time on phone with support and their first option was for me to let someone tap into my computer to configure Avast instead of me being talked through the process...  A definite no-go for me.

Tried adding the free premium trial to no-effect... no menu option appeared.  If I turn off Email Guardian then email flows just fine, so it's not really a server or Thunderbird issue.

First I don't use Avast One and the lack of configuration is my reason not to use it.

It isn't in the Avast Free settings as such, but in the undocumented/hidden geek:area and I don't even know if this is part of Avast One.

Try typing geek:area into the Menu > Settings > Search and see if that open anything ?
If it does type Export Certificate (or just Export) and then enter.  Does that b ring up the area to allow you to Perform the export.

See attached image in my Avast Free geek:area.

Thanks, but sadly, as noted, there is no settings search bar/option in AvastOne. :(

I've now uninstalled it and went back to Avast Free Antivirus... not sure why I installed AvastOne when prompted, but it worked until April 1 with no issues.

You're welcome.

Sadly this is just another reason why I wouldn't choose Avast One.

For something as crucial as this it should either be automatically exported and imported into the email client.  Otherwise what is the point of the Email Guardian, if this is what the Mail Shield is called in Avast One.  If it doesn't work what's the bloody point, something for the developers to loo at.

I've notified Avast. Let's see if that helps get an answer.

Hi,

The option to export a certificate is not available in Avast One.
The current option is to turn off "scan outbound emails SMTP" and "scan attachments when attaching (Outlook only)" - under Email Guardian.
Our developers are looking into this.
