Post by: hines232 on April 08, 2008, 08:07:35 PM
Windows ME

Superantispyware (free)
Spywareblaster (free)
CCleaner
WinPatrol
Avast (Home) 4.8

I just noticed today that the pictures in (my pictures folder), in Thumbnail, style still just shows a square box, and no small picture, (only the *.Bmp shows a small picture. The *.jpg's and others stay closed ??????? I have been running Avast for over a week now,  Love it, and had no occasion to go to that file until today. Avast prob. or not ??:o

I can't imagine how Avast would have anything to do with that at all.

I doubt it too, it certainly isn't something I have seen on the forums in almost four years that I have been using the forums.

Can you do a system restore?
I have such a problem some days ago, it was not related to avast but to a tweaker program that I've used. Did you use any registry cleaner and/or tweaker program?

I used Regseeker once for a registry cleanup and a couple of days later it was clear I needed to do a restore to undo the problems it caused.

It is still on my system for Registry searches but it won't ever be used again a cleaner.

I've never found a good free registry cleaner. I finally broke down and got Registry Mechanic. It works great and isn't expensive.

To a degree I agree with Alan on this, RegSeeker is a very powerful tool and not a very user friendly one with no help file or references, etc. So you can't take it as gospel and have to check each entry that you intend to remove, rather than simply select them all and remove them. It does back-up any changes if you didn't deselect that option, so to a point there is a way back.

I have been using it for years without problem, but you shouldn't stray from the Green entries and even then check them, this obviously implies you have to have a reasonable understanding of the registry. This no doubt Alan has, so it just goes to show the registry isn't a playground and you have to have a good back-up and recovery system to recover form registry problems.

That was one of my problems, I didn't see any thing Red,Green, or blue.It is very powerful, and with no "help" files, I should have known to stay away. Again thanks to all  ??? (i still have it on my system) will study it !!

You have learnt a valuable lesson, hopefully without too much of a consequence.
