Title: SSL/TLS Version II
Post by: mchain on January 18, 2012, 06:11:16 AM
Just wondering if Avast 6.0 is capable of scanning web mail directly.

I have not seen any scanning activity on gmail (webmail) or yahoo (webmail)in the mail scanner.  I do see a/v scanning when downloading an attachment, but nothing apparently from Avast.

Nope.  All the mail is on the respective web mail provider's server.  They have their own AV scanners that they use, I know gmail uses McAfee and one other (Authentium or something like that?) to scan all mail it runs.

Apart from that, the best way to apply security to web mail I know of is not to open attachments directly, instead right-click and save them.

The Avast! Mail Shield is only for mail clients like Outlook or Thunderbird.

It also works well with Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail and many others.
If you get your email delivered to your desktop, the avast! Mail Shield will protect you.
If you read your email on a website, those sites usually have their own method of scanning
their emails for infections.
