No, the plugin was disable... I don't know how...
Tools > Trust Center (or whatever it is called in English as I'm translating the menu)
There will be "Disabled itens" at the bottom and you need to enable the plugin back.

I have the same problem with Outlook 2003. After upgrading to the latest Version, the Outlook Anti-Spam bar vanished. I went to 'Help' -> 'About Microsoft Office Outlook' -> 'Disabled Items' but there are no disabled plugins I could reactivate.

Maybe you could repair the avast! installation and double check the antispam plugin is set to be installed.

I did a repair and made sure the Antispam checkbox was set during installation: No go, the Outlook bar is still missing.
BTW: Antispam itself works. When I download e-mails they are scanned by avast and shown in the 'Additional Protection' -> 'Antispam' tab.

I too have this problem. I recently updated to v 7.0.1456 and now the antispam buttons no longer appear at the top of my Outlook 2007. When I go to Tools -> Trust Center -> Add-ins I see "avast! Addin" and "avast! Antispam" in the Inactive Application Add-ins group. However, when I try to move them up to Active Applications Add-ins group I get a message telling me they can only be added by the administrator. When I log in as the administrator, I still get that message. I've gone through the avast! repair process but I still don't get the antispam buttons to appear. Any help would be appreciated.

We have disabled avast Toolbar because of problems while updating from 1426 versions. There are cases that in Outlook addin options are 2 addins presented (avast! Addin and avast! Antispam), which causes crashes of Outlook. We recommend to keep it disabled. If you still want to have your addin enabled, please keep enabled only avast! Addin and avast! Antispam disabled in outlook add-ins options. The best way to do it is to remove avast and make a clear install of AV 7.0.1456 using setup files and then enable addin in Outlook.

Known issues with plugin:

- unable to "mark as read" using pop3 account
- avast! Addin and avast! Antispam is present in Outlook while updating from version 1426 and older

We are still developing new issues in supporting of 3 different versions of Outlook (2k3, 2k7, 2k10) while a new update from MS side is alive. So please be patient.

Regards,
Ivan

Up until now I have not encountered any use problems using Outlook, but I'm no power user.  Still getting the message today.  So, when I launched Outlook after rebooting today, I replied to the pop-up to go ahead and disable the add-in.    I don't think I ever chose to enable any Avast toolbar in Outlook.  In Outlook 2007,  when I go to Tools -> Trust Center -> Add-ins I see "avast! Addin" and "avast! Antispam" check boxes are not checked, so I assume they are not active.   In Avast 'status' bar, all items are set to 'checked'.  Hope that is OK.

It would be great if you could post each Monday as to the status of the real fix to Avast for this new problem.
Thank you.

You'll most likely see an announcement once this problem has been fixed but,
don't expect weekly updates.
They are too busy solving problems and keeping us safe to worry about weekly announcements.  :)

Anyway, I expect it does not take that long.
I know the plugin was rewritten but the problems are all over the users. It's not a problem with few users.
Besides, the Antispam is a key tool at the paid versions.
I've uploaded some dumps and hope that, in anyway, they help troubleshooting this.

Thanks for the support. This time I've got also an email from the QA guy. I feel a lot better with the reaction.

I'm very surprised that there is no acknowledgement of the issue or an ETA for a fix.  Without it, I've had to convert 11 systems to another AV because my family and friends need to use Outlook and be protected.

2 ways to fix this.
Download the tool to completely uninstall Avast, then reinstall it. Reboot. (Should work, has been tested on 1 PC. If not use the below which has been tried and tested 2 PCs)

Or you can disable the self defence in Settings/Troubleshooting. The close the process for Avast in Task manager. Then go to Program Files > Avast software > Avast > And delete AsOutExt.dll AND AsOutExt64.dll

Then go to the control panel > Programs and features and repair the Avast program and then reboot.

:)
Hope it helps you guys

The repair did not work.
After reboot, I looked in Outlook 2007 trust center and there were two avast add-in there that were disabled.
Avast add-in
Avast Anti-spam add-in

It will not let me enable them, it has an error message it requires administrator
I opened outlook.exe as administrator and then enabled Avast add-in, but now when I open Outlook 2007 there is a message that Avast add-in crashed and it asks me if I want to disable it.

Will this be fixed in the next avast version or not?

Mike

There is no "solution" available yet. You need to disable the avast! plugin. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Will be addressed in the next program update.

You have to delete the 2 files I said first, before doing the repair. Then when you do the repair it comes up saying "avast has been updated" then reboot.
We have this working on 3 computers.

Maybe I'm imagining it working seeing as there's no solution  ;D

I don’t know if this will help, but it might.

First I must make it clear that I am no geek or guru - just an average somewhat electronically-challenged PC user.

That said, I am trying to help my elderly mother with her PC which had to be rebuilt a couple of weeks ago due to bad capacitors on her previous motherboard. She has been using PCs since the early 1990’s, & is in her late ‘80s now, & is trying to deal with the transition from everything XP + Outlook Express to Windows 7 64-bit with MS Office, including Outlook, 2007, also from AVG to Avast! Free. My mother’s Outlook gives that “Outlook experienced a serious problem with the ‘avast!’ addin’ add-in...” notice every single time she opens her Outlook ’07 for about the last week or so.

I have MS Office 2003 Pro w/ Outlook ‘03 on my PC. (Yes, this is relevant to the current subject - you’ll see.) I have Avast! 7 Internet Security completely & auto-updating itself every 4 hours (now program 7.0.1456) & all shields turned on in my PC; and I have never seen the Outlook Anti-Spam bar in my Outlook ‘03. Both PCs had problems installing the latest Avast! program update. On both machines the summary kept saying it still needed the program to be updated but the maintenance section said it was already updated which was fixed by reboot on both machines.

I've got to wonder why I don't see the same “Outlook encountered.....” message every time I open my Outlook 2003.

There seems to be a close correlation between the Avast! add-ins and the issues both in this thread and some others in this forum:
forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=99503.0
forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100692.msg804892
forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=101072, &
forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=70667.0 (of course with the “http://” in front).

It might help if the Avast! Team took a look at those other threads. Maybe it would help to look at this larger picture.
 :)

@IhateMalware,
The Avast team may not respond as often as I'd like in this forum but, I can assure you that this forum is read by them
and any complaints, solutions and/or suggestions are received and listened to.

I tried Mikebeedspeeds suggested solution above and it worked got the Spam bar back, but next time I opened Outlook 2007 the Spam bar was gone again.

This function is critical to me, its why I bought licenses for 3 PCs and to be without it means manually deleting hundreds of spam messages. I really need a fix urgently!

If you still want to have your addin enabled, please keep enabled only avast! Addin and avast! Antispam disabled in outlook add-ins options. The best way to do it is to remove avast and make a clear install of AV 7.0.1456 using setup files and then enable addin in Outlook.

I NEED this add in, its why i bought the Pro Version also!!! I have it on all my pc's and I get literally HUNDREDS of emails a day and 75% are spam..
Can someone please explain to me how to do this???

I just received a notice that my avast is up for renewal in about a month. If this is not fixed by then I believe I'll need to look for another provider. The Outlook protection is a main feature for me. Is there any estimate as to when the fix will be available?

The answer was that it will be addressed in the next program update.
Once it's released, that should take care of the problem.
The update should happen in a few weeks.

Also using Internet Security - and after definitions and Program update - no spam bar in Outlook 2007.   It is unclear whether Avast is working in Outlook - even tho there is no spam bar, etc.   Avast control center shows all shields active and full system is protected.   I have submitted an 'issue' to their E-mail customer service dept.   So far -(3 days) no response - or even acknowledgement of their recpt of my request for help.

Given the history of connection of Avast Customer Service - to crooked on line Service companies - who identified themselves as Avast Customer Service - but no matter what your problem - would diagnose something that would cost you money - my confidence not high that they will promptly rectifiy this issue.

A third party not doing their job as expected certainly doesn't make the company crooked nor does it reflect badly on Avast
since they severed that relationship once they discovered that the service was not up to par.

This was posted and acknowledged since from the beginning of the 7.0.1456 version release.
They're working on it. Better is to keep the antispam disabled. The scanning works as it should on Outlook.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you, Avast Team:

There is comfort in knowing that the issue is being worked on.   Sometimes it is tempting to try various fixes and perhaps cause more problems -when - as in this case - problem appears widespread - and best course is wait for Team fix.

I am using Outlook 2010 and have the same issue around the AntiSpam plug-in and have had the following message from Avast Technical Support:

Hello,

I am sorry but at this moment we do not plan to create new AntiSpam toolbar for Outlook.

Best regards,

Jakub Vanous
AVAST Software a.s.

Which would indicate the Avast is not going to support the automatic removal of Spam mail any longer. Looks like I for one (after 4-5 years of happily using the product)  will be looking for a new Internet Antivirus/Firewall, etc. suite!

Hope this helps clear things up for users wondering what is going on!

I have the same issue and it sucks. My emails continue to be marked as ***SPAM*** or ***PHISHING*** but they all pile up in my Inbox with everything else!!  Plus, and this is the WORST thing, I can no longer use the Antispam bar to mark messages "whitelist" or "blacklist".  What is the point of having an antispam function that doesn't actually remove spam from the Inbox and also doesn't allow users to fine tune by marking messages the autofilter might have gotten wrong?  Jeez!!

In another thread I did go to my menu bar and look under: Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins.  I can SEE that avast! Antispam is listed under Inactive Application Add-ins -- but there's no way to enable or make it active again.

I'm with the rest of you.  So far I have really liked avast!  I even recommended it to others.  But the Antispam function is something that users actually TOUCH and USE, often and on a regular basis.  Screwing with that is like screwing your customers.  I will definitely be shopping for an alternative.  I only regret that my subscription runs through next June, although I could also jump ship now...  I am SUPER disappointed.  What were they thinking???
