Title: Does Avast Internet Security conflict with Microsoft Security Essentials??
Post by: LadyA on July 14, 2012, 07:09:17 AM
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit SP1 on Dell XPS 8500 (Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @3.40GHz) <--wasn't sure how much info is needed to answer my question.

Should I disable MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) while I have Avast Internet Security installed?  Or just leave it running?

The reason I ask is that the 'important' Windows update KB2691905 ("Microsoft Security Essentials Client Update Package") failed to download and gave the error code 8004FF83.  Looking online about that error code seems to point to issues with conflicting security programs.  Wondering if I should turn MSE off and only have Avast running?  Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, sorry, forgot to try and search the forum first for an answer... I think I found it here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=97128.msg775138#msg775138.

I will turn off MSE and then just use Malwarebytes for occasional scans.  Would that be a good choice?

If you are going to keep avast, you should uninstall MSE and not just disable it.

Glad I asked! Also, I love that you provided those links to support your advice.  I will completely uninstall MSE.  I appreciate your help!
