Am running IS version 7.0.1456
This is just a suggestion for a future feature. And if it is already available then I apologise for not seeing it.
But I would quite like a feature that allows me to run a full system scan and then automatically power down the PC on conclusion of the scan.
I can then pick up the log results when next powering up.

It's already there on scheduling options.

OK, found it now, thanks. Not very intuitive if you are clicking on "Scan now". If "scheduled scan" is switched off, then the option to enable auto shut down is greyed out. You have to schedule a scan, even though you don't want to, in order to tick the box for auto shut down, then click OK for it to stick, then go back and unschedule the scan, then click on OK, and then click on Scan now. Sheesh!
Also, I cannot see the option to auto shutdown on completion of a boot time scan.

There should be no reason to run a boot time scan unless you are experiencing problems or directed to do so.

Agree with that. Not sure what point you are trying to make, though. It seems that you tacitly agree that there are circumstances when a boot time scan is appropriate. Well, yes.

Um, just to expand slightly on the above. The question of primary relevance to this thread is not "when might I want to run such-and-such type of scan?" but rather "when might I want to auto power-down at the end of such a scan?". I posit that you are more likely to want to power down on completion of a boot-time scan than under any other type. Why? Well ...
A full scan, whether at boot time or otherwise, typically takes some hours to conclude. At least when running a NON-boot scan you can use the machine for other purposes and let the scan do its thing in the background. So you could well be attendant at the computer while it is going on and, imporantly, on the completion of the scan. By contrast, when a boot-time scan is running, you can do nothing with the machine until it completes its thing which, as I say, may be some hours down the road. I am unlikely to be sitting in front of it all that time watching the % completion button tick over. I don't mind reviewing a completed scan log. But if I set the thing going for a boot time scan (because yes it found threats when last scanned normally), and then I set off for the office while it is chundering away, I would rather not leave it on and idle on conclusion pending my return home.

Well the default setting for boot time scans is set to ask which is the safer choice i believe and for this reason is probably why there is no shut down after running the scan as it would be waiting for you to view the log and make a decision on any detection, if for some reason the default was changed to repair or send to chest ( and there was a detection ) then your boot scan happened to shut down after running you might make your system unbootable if the detection was false.

Are you less vulnerable to such a catastrophe if you set the default to move to chest rather than ask during a non-boot scan?

The default for all other scans should be no tick in the automatically apply action box which imo is the safest so that you get the chance to review the detection before deciding what to do with it.

Take care of "move all to Chest" on boot scanning. It's powerful... it could be dangerous.
