;) well I have had time to look and asses the workings of avast and have come to the conclusion that the program is ok if you know how to set up the darn thing most users of avast have been having problems so far and here is how I can help
1. avast av is a complex piece of software firstly after installation I had a problem myself well I did like all others ran a virus check = nothing there
2. checked my firewall was not effecting the run of the AV
3. have found out now that a lot of firewalls throw up a defensive shield known as hips
4 this inhibits avast from doing its job if you have hips built into your firewall disable it first this will resolve all the problems that are occurring found this out by trial and error virtually had to take avast apart before I found the problem
1 piece of information before going further check what you have done and then recheck please email me if this helps anyone out there
us guys are here to help and we luv doing it

Thanks for offering assistance but emailing isn't how it's done.
That's what this forum is for.

I honestly think that avast is very simple and self explanatory myself and it's default settings are best for speed and detection combined, if you are having troubles setting it up then i would suggest not tinkering with it.
Firewalls! most of the good ones also have a learning mode and should be set to such when installing new software, remember to set exclusions between avast and your firewall and also set your firewall to allow all instances of avast.
I would also advise anyone from contacting you via email as for all we know you could be a spammer :o :)

Disable HIPS? :o Never. Once trained, HIPS and Avast get along famously.
