Title: Never got "Upgrade to paid version" nag screens
Post by: claudiubotezatu on August 04, 2012, 12:31:16 PM
Just to let you know;

I have Avast free 6.0.137 on 2 pc (xp and win7) with only 3 shields (file system, script and behaviour) and I never got an "Upgrade to paid version" nag screen. I live in Canada.

Thanks,
Claudiu

Hopefully you never go on the internet and never receive email.
Your current setup certainly isn't anything to brag about and not something I'd ever recommend.

Various problems have been reported with web shield and firewalls; as long as file system shield is active, web shield is just redundant

Version 7 is still buggy, latest 6  is perfectly working

You didn't respond to the first reply and you're not correct on your assessment of version 7 ???

@ claudiubotezatu
Sorry to burst your bubble but the web shield is perhaps the greatest shield of the proactive shields. The file system shield can't detect hacked sites and injected script tags to malicious sites.

If there are problems with the web shield and a firewall then it is best to find a resolution to it rather than disable the web shield. Not to mention the link that you gave, the problem isn't the web shield but comodo not being able to detect what is going through the web shield proxy. This is only in win7 which supports the latest windows redirect API and comodo doesn't support that.

The above doesn't stop the web shield doing its job, it is only an issue if in comodo you have tried to block a program connecting to the internet. If said program used http protocol to connect then it gets redirected through the web shield proxy and comodo can't detect that.

This is your system and what you do with it is your concern, but advising people that the web shield is redundant is poor if not dangerous advice.

I'm still at a loss as to the purpose of your topic in the first place.

That is definitely not true; a dangerous myth.

Well, if you don't trust us...
But it's up to you anyway. ;)
Good luck.

I don't need to google anything, as a forum regular if there are problems we will see them here and try to fix whatever the problem is.

Hi DavidR,

Thank you for your answer!
I am new to this forum and the only way to see what is the benefit of a Web Shield is to google it.
Following your advice I Searched on forum for "web shield"; I got 138 pages  like these:

...complain AxRM doesn't work when the Free Avast WEBshield is enabled
...secure IP bind feature does not let me open up webpages when Avast Web Shield is on
...As soon as I disable the real-time Web Shield all come back to normal
...I've narrowed the issue to the web shield
...Admuncher has had problems with the Web Shield before
...Admucher techs that I should disable the Web Shield in Avast
...know some people say that the Web Shield slows down browsing
...only I disable Avast Web-shield, it loads
...When ever I activate web shield it blocks internet access

But , as a forum regular you know, of course...

Thanks,
Claudiu

The problem is you can google to your hearts content and you won't find much about those that have no problems what so ever with it.
