Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems
Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot
Run OTL

- Then click the Run Fix button at the top
- Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

For some reason, the "show last popup message" in avast is grayed out. I am attaching a screen shot of the virus chest if that helps.
When I ran the OTL fix, it seemed to just stop after a while, so I did a force reboot. I tried this twice. I am also running WinPatrol which alerts me to any attempted changes to my system. After reboot, it alerted me to a potential change to my hosts file. I've not made a decision on whether or not to accept the change. I've made a screen shot of the potential change and I have attached it here. Waiting for guidance.

I also wanted to mention that I tried system restore before posting here and it would not restore to earlier dates on my computer.

Have you had any more alerts as the files appear to have been in your temp folder
run farbar service scanner (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FSS.exe)

Tick "All" options.
Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

I have not had any more alerts. What would cause system restore to repeatedly fail? FSS log posted below.

Yes, I successfully created a restore point.
When I was trying to restore before posting here, I was trying to restore to a point 2 to 4 weeks ago. Each time I tried, it failed.

They were probably corrupt restore points
Can you restore to the one made today ?

Yes, I successfully restored to the restore point I made today, so the older restore points must have been corrupt.
Looks like I dodged a bullet as well with the malware. Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated.

OK lets tidy up .. This will reset all your restore points
Subject to no further problems :)
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :thumbsup:
A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Run OTL- Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

- Then click the Run Fix button at the top
- Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that- Click Start.
- Open My Computer.
- Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
- Select the View Tab.
- Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
- Click Yes to confirm.
- Click OK.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
