Title: Steam False Detection Quickfix
Post by: Axalto on August 06, 2012, 03:45:35 PM
So you're probably here to see how to get steam working again. Why otherwise would you click on this thread?
It's fairly easy to do and to help I'll include pictures.

1. Open your avast user interface

2. Go to Real-Time Shields->File System Shield

3. Click the Expert Settings button

4. Go to Exclusions

5. Add the files that are being blocked to the list. In my case this was "steamclient.dll" and "tier0_s.dll".

Click OK and close the user interface, when you start steam now it should work and replace the files automatically.
If you still get blocked files, add those to the list as well.
Please note that this quickfix makes steam work by disabling the virus scanning for those files, if there are actually virii in them they will not get detected.

As I'm quite sure you helped many users with this workaround...
...and nobody had the time to thank you for it, I'll do it for them. ;)

Thanks Axalto..!! :)
