I just reformatted my laptop so i reinstalled avast
however right after i installed it i encountered a blue screen of death, now every time my laptop loads up it encounters a blue screen of death. this has never happened to me before and i've used avast for a good year now
anyone know what's going on???
my laptop is running on safe mode right now and i really have no idea on what to do...
-
when you say reformat.....do you mean a clean install from disk?
or recovery back to factory install?
-
i did a recovery to what it was out of the box

Did you by any chance ever install Ad-aware Free with Antivirus? That one had one nasty bug that made all other antiviruses BSOD on installation...
-
so then you have also reinstalled the factory installed antivirus?
like norton / mcafee / trend micro ?
if so it must go before installing avast
use removal tool to clear any leftover files that conflict http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
-
i don't even know what Ad-aware Free with Antivirus is so i'm pretty sure i haven't installed it
as for the preinstalled antivirus programs, my laptop did prompt me to activate Norton Internet Security which i refused but it somehow is still on here....
in any case i uninstalled avast while in safe mode and restarted normally and now the BSODs have disappeared =/
should i get rid of Norton Internet Security before reinstalling avast?
-
Yes....never install multiple AV
and find the tool at the link i gave you an run it..
-
alright thank you
I also found Norton Online Backup installed onto my laptop, should i remove that as well?
also would i need a special removal tool to remove that as well or can i just uninstall it like any normal program?
EDIT: Nevermind, found that you can uninstall it normally and I did just that.
anyways I really appreciate your guys' help! =]

You will still be required to run the removal tool from the link that Pondus supplied you to remove remnants of norton before installing avast, then i would also run searches in your system for " Norton " - " Symantec "
-
It kust happened to me but all seems okay right now...
-
Thanks, Pondus, for that link. I registered for the forum to come say so. I had removed Norton prior to installing Avast on this laptop (XP), and I got the bluescreen of death after install too. I thought this cleanup would help, but unfortunately, upon reinstall, it still gave me the bluescreen. I just ran Ccleaner (after again removing Avast in safe mode, and the registry cleaner found a bunch of Symantic entries. I may try installing again, but, if it doesn't work, any further ideas? I have never had this problem with Avast before, and feel neked without AV. Thanks for your expertise.
