Hi Everyone! I am a newby here but I have a problem with Avast Internet Security.
I have checked other threads which seem to have the same problem & they have been resolved but in my case Avast Firewall will not function.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled (three times) using Avast's own "clear" software but no joy.
I have gone to Control Panel & clicked uninstall a program & asked Avast to Repair itself and it shows you downloading & installing the Firewall and says it has completed successfully but it still does not work.
I have no other software that can stop the Avast firewall from working.
So why will Avast Firewall not work?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hm,
when my avast firewall didnt work (it was "working", but no traffic was visible, it was just sitting there doing nothing), i also fixed it by complete avast reinstall, but between uninstall and install I also removed and reinstall all my network card drivers, just to be sure the whole "chain" is not messed somehow. Maybe its worth trying.....

Hello bgbopper,
- Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)?
- Which program version (avast!)?
- Other security related software installed?
- Windows Firewall (XP) is out?

Very relevant questions here. Other installed security related software (even if never run/trial software) can conflict, and Windows Firewall not running can have deleterious impact on Avast! Firewall. Is Windows Firewall working/running? Error codes?

Hi Everyone and thank you for all your replies.
I have Windows7 ultimate 32 bit and I have no other firewall software except Windows own.
I do have WinPatrol which I uninstalled and it was the same "Unable to start Firewall".
I have the Avast Internet Security which according to the download page on Avast website had the Firewall box ticked as included with the software.
I had no other error codes or numbers. I hope I can get it working somehow!
Reading the reply which mentions Network Drivers I remembered my internet connection being stopped and when I did a troubleshoot via Network Connections it did tell me the Local Internet Connection Driver had stopped but please forgive me as I am a newby, what Network Drivers should I remove?
I have still not got the Firewall working but what I have noticed is in Device Manager the following drivers are "not working" and may be connected to the Firewall problem. I do not know so that is why I am hoping someone will help me solve it. There are 3 drivers:
1) Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
2) Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2
3) Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface
are those the one's stopping the Firewall?
Thanks for all your help it is appreciated.

Just letting everyone know that there was a Avast Update which included the Firewall component & it has corrected all the problems I had with trying to get the Firewall working.
There must have been a bug which has been killed off.
Thanks for all the replies. My pc is at last secure.
