So my avast ran out in the end of July or in the beginning of August and my computer wasn't protected but just today I noticed that it gave me 3 months for free? What's going on?
-
Did you register it?
If not, that's why.
-
I didn't register it (at least I don't think I did). I didn't fill out anything, renew it, or click anything. It just started back up again.
-
Is this the FREE version we are talking about?
I'm not really familiar with the FREE registration process but ..
Look under Maintenance\Subscription for a place to type in your name, email, etc.
If you see it, fill in the blanks and voila!
Check back.

It says it's registered but I nor any of my family members registered it. It was registered at 4:30 in the morning. Yes it's the free version.
I'm worried if it was a virus or something that did it.
-
You've got me.
Is is updating for you every day? If so, you are good to go.

I have to manually update it.
Could a virus do this?

I'm at a loss as to what to suggest as I haven't come across anything like this in the forums and I'm not aware of any auto 3 month extension of the free version.
If your registration expiry states 3 months in the future, I wouldn't worry about it. Obviously when you get near this expiry date you will get notification of the need to renew your registration.
Why didn't you re-register when it started to notify you of the forthcoming expiry ?

I am having the same issue. I am afraid that it is a virus as well, looking for profile and credit card information. Has anyone else had this happen or is it just the 2 of us? If at a minimum I will remove the current Avast and download the current version and upgrade immediately...
Anyone?

Not really the same issue if you suspect malware involvement.
