Does anyone know how to completely remove AOL from you computer? I got my p.c. as a hand me down from my brother (Pentium II) and I immediately removed the program, I went into the C drive and cleared out all of the file folders, however to my chagrin, I found over two hundred entries in my registry. My first inclination was to immediately start deleting everything in sight, but, I slapped my own face hard :D and came to my senses, upon realizing what part of my p.c. I was in!!! I want to speed up my p.c. and I know a cleaner registry means a faster computer. Someone told me that AOL is like a virus and leaves its tentacles behind hoping you'll come back into the "fold, " but no such luck, since I'm an avid Yahoo convert! So any advice on cleaning my registry of this vermin would be greatly appreciated!!! I have Tuneup Utilities, but the registry cleaner won't touch AOL.

As far as I know you can't remove all that AOL installs by using the Add & Remove from the control Panel. The only way to get it all off is to reinstall the operating system.
I did a test install of AOL at one time and used the uninstall application to check the uninstall. After the uninstall a screen came up saying AOL has been completely removed but it still left just a tad over 42 mb just in the Windows directory, not counting other places such as the registry.
After testing I restored my PC with a backup image.

Have you contacted AOL to see if they have an uninstall utility?

One of the best way to remove residue programs from your registry safely is a program written by Jouni Vuorio from Finland. Its a freeware program and works the best all of them i have tried. The program is RegCleaner 4.3 its very easy to use. If you have kazaa lite or edonkey to look for since he was brought a few years ago and now you have to pay for the last version he designed.
