Title: I'm sure that I'm not
Post by: midnight on October 06, 2012, 03:28:23 PM
the first person to post on a topic started by someone else and I'm sure I won't be the last.

I don't even know what Hijacking means and how dare you talk down to me like I'm a child.   ::)

It isn't as if we haven't said it before, so when you continue to do it what else can we do but remind you again.

Hijacking is no different in the forums as is in anything else, taking over something which isn't yours. Topics have a Subject of a question being asked, when you ask a question that isn't directly related to that topic you are hijacking the topic by diverting it of the original subject.

hi midnight,

First of all, it is ok to get upset due to a misunderstanding or two.  Perfectly ok.

Hijacking a thread simply means that the thread concerned usually is between two posters discussing a common problem or solution to a problem and someone else jumps in.

A good example of that would be essexboy and an user asking for assistance in repairing/fixes his system after a malware infection, and this discussion is between the two of them, and, then a third user/member, or forth user, fifth, and so on, jump in to say they have the same or similar problem as the first poster has.  Now we have a multitude of users asking for help.  The result can become confusion, and also needless clutter, as the continuity of the thread post is now broken.   Other users are butting in, not good.

That is hijacking a thread.

Posting a notice or topic within a topic that is not yours that happens to be unrelated to the original poster's issue is also hijacking it.  We frown upon that in this forum.  If you are doing that, please stop.  It is distracting us from properly helping the original poster and can be viewed as disrespectful to the original poster, especially when he/she has not done anything to you to merit it.

The best solution is to start your own post in the above example.  In the General Forum you can discuss/post whatever you like.

I would like to point out that, in the Virus and Worm section, the free help we provide for all registered members, that elsewhere would cost hundreds of dollars at a computer shop to repair, is done gratis, no charge whatsoever.  We do not care if you use a competitors antivirus program, we will still help you.

So, create your own topic, and, guess what, you cannot be accused of hijacking it as you now own it.

I agree with you there.

We should always be helpful, and not disrespectful here.

Committing a cybercrime most certainly is disrespectful, and in most IT communities, will get you banished, or worse, put in jail.  I, for one, do not think the issue here is whether you have gone and done that, but whether you will freely and willingly heed and listen to what other senior members/users are saying to you.

Whether you choose to do so or not, is entirely up to you.

I, like you, am a member of this forum.  I, in no way whatsoever, represent Avast!  To do so, I would have to be employed by them, and then and only then, could I speak on behalf of Avast!  Until that happens, I am just a user like you.

Maybe you are just mad at Avast! for some reason?

Well, please forgive me for committing a cyber crime!
Your statement: "I don't even know what hijacking is."
I simply posted some information for you to learn the meaning. Nothing more, nothing less.
That's how we all learn and I thought that's what you where looking for ???
