Title: \\.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe
Post by: coleelway on October 31, 2012, 01:19:27 AM
How do I get rid of this?  I get avast windows every minute about a malicious URL which was blocked.  I ran a full scan but avast did not detect anything.  I also ran a full Spybot scan but it is still happening.

  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer (Install/Uninstall programs, delete files, edit the registry, etc...)
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.

Delete old TDSSKiller, download fresh TDSSKiller (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe)  and save it to your desktop

 Step#1

Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.

Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

> Please attach the contents of that log in your next reply.

--------------------------------------------------

 Step#2

Note:It will also create a log in the C:\ directory.

***************************************

 Step#3

Combofix must be running from Desktop;
Code: [Select]

Save this as CFScript.txt

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above.

Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
ComboFix will will re-run. When finished, it will produce a log for you.

Done.  It seems to be running well.  I have not had the pop-up warning in a few days but I have only been using the computer to go through this process with you.

What do i need to do to get my shield back up?  Just reverse the changes you had me make to disable avast?

Thanks again!!

Yes. But first we need to remove some used tools.   ;)

It is necessary to uninstall ComboFix :
Code: [Select]
ComboFix /Uninstall Note that there is a space between "  ComboFix  " and "  /Uninstall  " .

Wait for the uninstall process is complete.

--------------------------------

> Re-run OTL and click on CleanUp! button.

You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process, choose Yes.
After the reboot all the tools we used should be gone.
Note: Some more recently created tools may not yet be removed by OTL. Feel free to manually delete any tools it leaves behind.
