Title: All avast services stopped
Post by: Staticguy on November 01, 2012, 09:26:57 PM
Just now all services of Avast Free Edition just stopped after restarting my computer because of an update that my laptop needs to be restarted after it got installed from Microsoft Update. Everything is off i mean everything avast main screen says this "UNSECURED". Your system is not protected. Please use the Fix Now button to start protecting your system. I then clicked on Fix Now no response. I then tried to individually turn on each real time shields. No help! Please see attachment.

This is some sort of bug. My Avast free edition is 7.0.1474

Reboot. If not fix, try to repair Avast!

With XP

Start > Control panel > Add & Remove programs > select avast! and click " Change/Remove ". Look for " Repair " and click it.

With Vista or win7

Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > uninstall a program > select avast! and click " Uninstall/Change ". Look for " Repair "

Reboot after repair.

Reboot when finished.

If that doesn't work try the change option instead. Uncheck components, update, reboot. Then go back and check components, apply, reboot.

Rebooted= No help

I have heard from this forum http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108279.0 they clicked on repair but still no help! Pretty sure either there is a bug and/or avast had a bad update when my avast updated.

If repair did not help I am afraid you will have to reinstall from scratch. Follow this guide.

1.) Very important to remove all remains of other AVs installed before Avast. Use this site to execute uninstall utilities for other AVs.

http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

2.) Download and save to your desktop aswclear : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

3.) Download and save a fresh copy of Avast!. Be sure to have your lincense handy if running a paid version.

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

4.) Open Avast! > Settings > Troubleshooting > Untick " Enable Avast! self-defense module ".

5.) Uninstall Avast! normally through Control Panel > Programs & feature ( Vista, W7 ) or Add and remove programs ( XP ). Reboot. If you can not complete this step, continue with step # 6

6.) Even if you were able to uninstall Avast! in step # 5, it is important to run aswclear.exe in safe mode for any Avast! you may have had before and then for v. 7. Reboot into normal mode after uninstall.

7.) Reinstall fresh copy of Avast! and reboot.

Be aware. Avast! will offer Chrome during installment. Remember to opt-out if you do not want it.

Hey I found a workaround! Download the avast uninstaller in the desktop. Uninstall avast. Restart computer. Press F8 before the windows logo comes up. Select Safe Mode. Run the avast uninstaller. Restart computer. Finally install avast.

This workaround worked for me
