What about (1) avast internet security
(2)avast pro with Outpost Firewall Pro or OnlineArmor
(3)avast free with Outpost Firewall Pro or OnlineArmor

Then add for extra security Malwarebytes free or Pro  :)

Your best off to test them and see for yourself.

Best for me is avast free and outpost firewall pro but best for someone else could be any number of scenario's, as far as being light I would think having avast internet security would be the lightest as it's all in one package if your after a suite.

If you check out our signatures you will find a variety of set-ups. All of us here on the forums will agree start with avast (free, pro or AIS). Some use Comodo (firewall only) others Online Armor or my preference Private Firewall still others Outpost.

Here are some links;
http://www.filehippo.com/download_outpost_firewall/
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/Online-Armor-Free.shtml
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/Privatefirewall.shtml
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/Comodo-Personal-Firewall.shtml

All four have HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Software) and are solid.  :)

Based on ratings Avast and Comodo Firewall provide the max security but Comodo has incompatibility with Avast unless you install their beta.

I really like my setup.

W7x64 sp1 - avast! Pro Antivirus - Outpost Firewall Pro - WinPatrol Plus

Based on ratings Avast and Comodo Firewall provide the max security but Comodo has incompatibility with Avast unless you install their beta.

Where can I find these ratings?

For firewall ratings, you visit http://www.matousec.com/

For antivirus you visit http://www.av-comparatives.org

The best freeware AV is Avast

100% agreed. Matousec was great but its mainly a HIPS test. Any firewall with HIPS scores high. But for the average, everyday user Windows 7 firewall along side a router with NAT will provide more then enough adequate protection.
