Title: Avast won't work

Hello I am trying to get avast to work I installed it a day ago and I just noticed today that it wasn't running.  I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened, it didn't give me any errors when I installed it so, I Don't know what to do.  Can anyone help me install and get avast to run correctly?

I am running a hp laptop 2.2gh 3GB of ram
windows 7 home premium SP1

what antivirus did you use before installing avast?

hp computers often come with a preinstalled Norton antivirus......did yours also?
did you remove it before installing avast?
did you run the vendors removal tool to clear any leftover files that may conflict    http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/
